RAGE Arrives

Last night at 12am I picked up my reserve copy of the game RAGE. I have not been holding my breath in anticipation. However, because it is from ID software and John Carmack's pet project I think there is going to be something more to it. I think they really try to set the bar for gameplay and graphics.

Though I was not intent on rushing home and enduring a long install to play at 2 am, I was curious. So, after some cat time (I took a nap this afternoon in anticipation of staying up late... not this late, but...) Sammy was needy, and the install did take an hour plus. Then there was an update from Steam... which I think developers are learning to appreciate more because it puts less stress on their production deadline (to have a final final version).

Anyway, to the game.

I was Impressed right away from the story opening. Sci Fi right off the bat, sweet! And, it was well done (for a game that is). They still have a ways to go to be as dramatic as a good movie. I find that a year or 2 goes by and I say to myself that was not as cool as when I first had experienced it. Still, it engaged my imagination. Large asteroid, gracefully moving through space, slowly rotating, camera panning smoothly around to give you sense of size. Then passes through Saturns rings withought a flinch, narration announcing to Earth's population that this the final moment. The moon is cut through, shards of debris scatter in many directions and the asteroid hits earth. At the same time, in some type of capsule, in first person persepective your character is being prepared for a long sleep.

Trackmania

This weekend I was able to learn a little bit about an online game that interesting and fun. Its so cool because, I could play with many people from around the world. A single game can have many players from around the world and you can be ranked around the world. This is not like Xbox live because it is huge and xbox is small.

It has been out for years and broken Guinness World Records. It has players from everywhere in the world. It is free to play.
